Griffin House strives to become popular household name

With the amazing success John Mayer and Ben Kweller are achieving, it has sent boys running to buy guitars and find a girl to break their heart, but Griffin House can’t say that it’s the influences of today’s acoustic/folk rock leading men that got him started in this business.

Twenty-four-year old House, an Ohio native, found his calling in college. He learned some chords and rapidly began the songwriting process, using his appreciation for Wilco, Bruce Springsteen and Woody Guthrie as inspiration.

House made an incredible leap into the music world, or as he likes to put it, “jumped in with both feet.” That jump started what could become an amazing career for this young musician. House’s sophomore album, entitled “Lost & Found,” captures the maturity and confidence House has found in himself and his music. You can also sense the pride, which House should have considering he and his band recorded the disc on a tight budget, and on their own with minimal takes.

The songs on “Lost & Found” vary from track to track — some peaceful, some passionate, all hard-hitting. Listening to House’s raspy voice sing about his personal experiences, using such beautiful lyrics, is sure to touch you in some aspect; if not, it will make you feel a connection to the musician.

House may have no problem developing an underground following, but does he have what it takes to sell? House may not get the credit he deserves.

Should we all start chanting, “Move over John Mayer”?

Not just yet.

While House tickles your acoustic fancies, this album could easily be found on repeat in doctor’s offices nationwide — at least if the procedure is painful. I will be sure to have House’s soothing voice to lull me into a peaceful sleep.
